Nestled in the charming town of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, Caffè Nero is a cozy place where community, conversation, and quality coffee come together.

We are proud to be part of a town with a remarkable history — a history built by people who came here looking for something better and, in doing so, helped create the community we know and love today.

A TOWN BUILT ON COMMUNITY

Long before Ambridge became the industrial town it would later be known for, this area was home to Old Economy Village, established in the 1820s by the Harmony Society. The Harmonists were immigrants from Germany who came to America seeking religious and economic freedom. They built a thriving community along the Ohio River, developing farms, gardens, workshops, and businesses that helped make the area an important center of commerce.

As the Harmony Society eventually declined, a new chapter began. The American Bridge Company purchased much of the land and established the community that became Ambridge. The borough was officially incorporated in 1905. Industry brought jobs and opportunity, and Ambridge became a place where people from many different backgrounds came together to build their lives.

THE STORIES OF OUR IMMIGRANT GRANDMOTHERS AND GRANDFATHERS

For generations, Ambridge welcomed families from across Europe and beyond. Italian, Greek, Slovak, Croatian, Ukrainian, Polish, Slovenian, Carpatho-Rusyn, and many other immigrant communities became part of the fabric of this town.

They came looking for opportunity. They worked in the mills, factories, shops, and businesses that helped make Ambridge a thriving community. They built homes, raised families, opened businesses, established churches and social organizations, and brought with them the traditions, recipes, languages, music, and customs of the places they had left behind.

For many of us, these stories feel familiar.

We think about the grandmothers who cooked for their families, the grandfathers who worked long hours, and the parents who sacrificed so their children could have opportunities they never had themselves.

We think about recipes passed down through generations, Sunday dinners, homemade desserts, fresh bread, and the simple tradition of gathering around a table with family and friends.

Those traditions are part of what makes a community feel like home.

Our menu reflects that same spirit. From our freshly prepared sandwiches and paninis to our pastries, donuts, baked goods, and desserts, we take pride in offering food that brings people together.

Our bakery selection changes throughout the year, including seasonal favorites such as pumpkin muffins and pumpkin cheesecakes, along with other special desserts inspired by the season.
